You know, ladies can’t resist the lure of diamond. With the beauty of the thing it is a wonder there is even a single woman alive who doesn’t have one. You know how ladies like beautiful things. Most would sooner have diamond jewelry than anything else.
No doubt you have seen a diamond before. Even if you haven't you have certainly heard of its reputation. Expensive, yes; but more than that, it is beautiful. So beautiful in fact that you would not mind its price tag so long as you have the money.
With a substance as beautiful as the diamond, certainly there have been countless attempts to reproduce it. All have failed, the closest being graphite, a substance that should not even be allowed in the same room as diamond. Evidence shows that sometimes diamonds form as deep as 670 km into the Earth. You can’t reproduce that. You can only hope to pay for it.
The crystallization of diamond requires that heat be generated in the earth's crust of up to 12000C. This is accompanied by pressures that exceed 50 kilobars. The time frame is perhaps a few billion years, and you get the earth's most perfect jewel.
Diamonds have no color of their own in any sense. What makes them so radiant is their ability to capture every form of light in and around them and reflect them out in a radiant manner. One look is all it takes to capture your love forever.
When you put a diamond ring on your finger, the furthest thing from your mind is its origins. Who wants to remember that it has taken a billion years to make? Who wants to remember that there were heats of thousands of degrees and pressures of tens of thousands? You simply think of how exquisite it is on your finger.
The very cost of the diamond is evidence of man’s lust for priceless beauty. Because the diamond is so captivating in its radiance, men would pay through their nostrils to have and hold on to it forever. And so, the price of the gem continues to rise.
The volcanic rocks, amongst which we find diamonds in their raw form, are much younger than the diamonds themselves. But as they journey forcefully upward, being expelled by the earth, they bring with them these priceless gifts from the bowels – diamonds. So are born the greatest jewels in the world.
